I'm sorry @syndrossi I whish I could be normal but I can only let things I like consume me...
The other day I drew more art for the story "Resonant" and
Tumblr media
yeah, it looks cute, but had no idea how big an y/o is until recently...
so I just speed googled some facts:
Tumblr media
Can I trust google with this fact? probably not, but I need a sturdy frame of reference...
:P
Then I searched for average height of children in america this year (I suspect children in a medieval world will have less sources of nutrition and less height...but , meh, let's pretend)

Boy, that's big! they'd be almost at my shoulder!

...So I guess Daemon's current situation looks a lot more like this:

Someone needs to up their core strenght game...
Anyway! have a picture of Daemon embracing his sons again if he comes back when he comes back from war!

ah yes, my favorite media. a grand story about the horror and tragedy of war set featuring a massive space war that was a rebellion against an oppressive colonial empire hellbent on conquest (which also experiments on its subjects), a main cast of mostly female characters, a key romance between two women, and a clone army of female super soldiers.
my favorite character in this story is a woman named rose. though not physically present in the text, her absence echoes throughout the narrative in a way that makes those closest to her do great and terrible things. she comprises one half of the key romance (of which the other half is deeply devoted to her even after she is gone). she has done some deeply awful things in her past, but that doesn't stop me excusing her shitty actions <3
wait, am i talking about steven universe or once upon a time in space?
(meme redraw lol)

And here we are: Xavier, Lola, and Chloe! I didn't change much of the color pallet (because it just worked), but I did change up the design a little bit from the original (such as having gloves and the mask/bandana). Also, Lola's eyes are green, but since she is still classified as a wolf by the way of the world (no collar but has a harness instead) her eyes turn red when angry.
Tumblr media
And a little snippet story underneath because why not?
~~~
Traveling in the snow and mountains wasn't an easy feat, having to watch- not only his step, but the steps of his two companions as well from powdered snow. A backpack on his back made a comfortable seating area for the cat that currently sat in his hood, pulled down so she was sitting on the backpack. A better suited lead out of one he found on the ground was attached to a wolf's harness that he had made out of dyed leather and iron he managed to bend and use.
For however long they were friends and companions, he was grateful for it, allowing the wolf to sniff around and gently tug the lead to guide away from the looser snow patches he found. Having traveled for well over 5 years, he knew what to look for. It was only when his wolf companion stopped in her tracks and her eyes begin to turn from their dark green to red, did he pause and tighten his hold on the lead.
"Lola, it's okay," the human said, reaching down to pet down the spiked fur, "there's nothing out here. Just us, maybe a fox and some llamas, but we're okay." While it did calm her a bit, she still let out a growl. This alerting the cat on his back, feeling her move and perk up to peak over her human's head to look around. "Alright, we'll stop and investigate, whatever it is."
With that, the three wondered over to some trees, setting the lead down to the ground to get the cat and backpack off of his back. A simple toss upwards, the backpack caught onto a branch of the spruce tree, before he lifted up the cat from the ground again, as well as the lead attached to Lola, who has sat down while the human handled everything.
Walking up from the slopes to a more laid out area, it almost looked... Man made with how flat it was. He could identify pretty easily what the land was supposed to look like, even with something has flat as a snowy plains, which is seemingly what the land morphed to down the slope with a snowy taiga that was right beside him, this was more flat than that. Too flat.
The growl of Lola as she stood up caused the cat's claws to come out, her multi colored eyes turning to nearly black as her pupils expanded in a way that meant she would attack. "Chloe, calm down, we're just looking. It's probably nothing." Even though he said it with a confidence assurance, none of the three believed his words.
Shifting his hood upwards and grabbing Chloe firmly in his left arm, he let Lola lead the way to the other side of the slope, her hair standing on end, teeth bared, and growls steadily getting louder in her throat. Upon approaching the edge, the human tugged at the lead and crouched down, his eyes narrowing at the sight of...
An igloo. That's what all the fuss is about? They had passed plenty of igloos before with no issue, a lot of them being abandoned or the occupant trapped in their own basement, and this reaction tended to only come from something like a pillager outpost that he had been sent to deal with or run away. But an igloo? This was new.
Still, the human couldn't help but feel off about this, as if this one was more dangerous than the previous igloos with literal zombies in the basement. He settled Chloe on the ground, the cat sitting down with her tip of her tail swishing aggressively towards the igloo, before reaching over to Lola and untying the lead, wrapping the rope around the stretch of his arm before tucking it in his pocket.
"Find." He commanded, and that set Lola off. Bounding down the snowy mountain in a practiced, hunter-like fashion, she sniffed the ground and air once she hit the bottom, following the scent of what was another human, something a bit undead too. Chloe climbed down as the human all but slid down the snow, in a controlled fashion. He watched closely as Lola sniffed around the one side of the igloo, while Chloe went around the other side, her ears twitching towards the ground the closer she got.
The human took his time, being as light as he could on his feet. Out of all of them, he was the least armed, but that was okay with him. Lola soon let out a single bark, but nothing past that, meaning to the human that the coast was clear on the outside, as she sat in front of the door to the igloo. The sun was starting to set as is, if it came to it, sleeping inside the igloo wasn't a horrible idea to stay from the cold.
He popped the door open after Chloe moved out of the way of the swing, before walking in slowly. Empty. Shockingly empty. No bed, a dimly lit lantern, a rug on the floor, but past that, nothing else. Giving a shrug, he stepped into the small area and gave one last look around, giving a motion for Chloe and Lola to follow him inside. Speaking, however, felt impossible. He didn't feel safe speaking in the area, and his suspicions were confirmed with Lola sniffing at the rug, trying to nudge it out of the way.
He crouched down, Chloe jumping onto his shoulders and Lola moving out of the way, before moving the rug. Underneath, hidden away, was a trapdoor. One glance to Lola and back to the door, he stood up with Chloe slinking into the hood and around his neck, before snapping and pointing down to the ground. A silent 'sit and stay' command that Lola followed, before he opened the trapdoor.
Seeing no light coming through, he grabbed the lantern and clenched the handle in between his teeth- the wood tasting like dark oak- before he began climbing down the ladder. This wasn't new, but something felt much more threatening and alarming than before.
Once down at the bottom, he grabbed the lantern from his mouth and turned up the brightness, holding it up and scanning the room. There were unlit torches on the wall, but by the smoke rising from them, they had been freshly placed out. He held up the lantern to one, the fire easily sparking the torch to life, as Chloe leapt down onto the table. The clicking of bones and small vwoops caught his attention, swiftly turning to the right and just now realizing how much bigger this area was comparatively to others he had found before.
The clicking bones belonged down a skeleton, staring at him with a curiosity unlike he'd seen before. It didn't even look fully like a skeleton, more ice-y and cold than he'd normally see, with barely-there covering of clothing. The clicking and rattling seemed to come more from shivering. The vwoops were from an enderman, and the human immediately tipped his head lower to avoid its eyes, having heard of the stories before.
When tipping his head down to avoid the enderman's eyes, he realized a book on the table, as Chloe pawed at a bow on the wall. He grabbed the book, opening it up with vivid confusion as to why this was here and what it was. He settled the lantern on the table, but didn't realize someone had snuck upon him, until a sword was placed to the back of his neck, hood having long since fallen down. "Well, well, well... it's not everyday a specimen waltzes in here willingly."
He froze in place, the blade only sinking closer to his skin until he felt the sharp point press enough to put more pressure. "And a human, no less... Quite rare... I wonder how you would change forms.. Or make them change," the voice caused a shudder to rush down his spine, "now, tell me your name."
"Xavier." His tone was cold, the book settled on the table as he grabbed the edge of it. He could feel the fear around the room, looking at the bow and table to see Chloe not on there. "Xavier Morrison. And, you are?"
"Doctor Civi Glaser."
"Well, doctor Glaser, I hope you're not allergic to cats."
"Excuse me?"
"Sic 'em, Chloe!"
With Xavier's command, Chloe rushed from her spot, claws out as she jumped on the doctor's thigh, digging her teeth in as well and effectively causing him to yelp in pain and stumble away from Xavier. He shoved backwards from the table, using all of his body weight to slam into the doctor and throw him off guard. It worked better than he planned.
Swiftly turning around, narrowly dodging the desperate sword swing, he noticed the skeleton in the cage motioning towards the bow on the wall and under the table. He took a look underneath, finding a quiver of arrows and grabbing them up. Standing up, he blocked a hit with the chain mail on his arm, Chloe jumping off of the doctor to grab on Xavier, climbing up to his shoulders for safety.
In that moment, Xavier grabbed the bow from the wall and loaded an arrow, ducking underneath a swing and aiming a hit to the arm that held the sword.
The twang of the rope echoed through the room, the arrow striking into the doctor's arm, and with a pained shout, the sword clattered to the ground noisily. The arrow itself, the tip of it specifically, started to swirl around a light blue effect, phantom chains wrapping around his wrists and ankles, effectively weighting him down to the ground.
Xavier panted just slightly, the heat of the torch and adrenaline rushing through his veins made the room all too hot. Growls and hissing spats from Chloe and booming barks from Lola from the top of the ladder only fueled him, as he grabbed another arrow and loaded it, aiming at the doctor in question. "Your offer is tempting, doctor, but I'll have to refuse," he pulled the rope to give a bit more power, "I can't work with those that are ruthless."
Civi could only chuckle, grabbing the arrow from his arm and yanking the tip free, tossing it to the ground. "Fine then. Until we meet again."
As Xavier released the placed arrow, aimed at the doctor's head, the sound of glass breaking instead of crunching made him jolt. The arrow hit the ground, collapsing down since it was unable to penetrate the stone cold floor. A deep breath, slow exhale, he turned to the cages. In total, he could only see three, and the last one was empty. Bloody. Seemingly broken out of, or into, he wasn't sure.
The room fell quiet, the distant sound of Lola's protective barks towards something that unknown was the only thing he could hear, turning to the still shivering skeleton and tilting his head gently. Now, he could take a better look: Both of the captives had clothing on, which was a little odd to him, but to each their own.
The enderman especially, but with the curled up nature, the seemingly pleading vwoops, and slightly distressed cries, it wasn't any wonder that the enderman was scared. A curtain-like cloth wrapped around their body in a toga-like style, while the skeleton had fabric covering enough to be like a skirt and a poncho almost. Dark blue, almost frozen.
Xavier grabbed the book after setting the bow and arrow down, and by the shivering of the skeleton and continued distressed cries of the enderman, they were worried of what he would do.. Not that he would do anything, other than collect the book for evidence for a friend of his in the swamps. Upon opening the first page...
Tumblr media
He understood why they were scared of the book. Three pages, he turned to to figure out what he needed: Page 7, 10, and 11
"So... Your name is Ezra?" Xavier turned to the skeleton, his head tilted and an unreadable expression written on his half-shown face. With the skeleton's nod of approval, he nodded as well. Ezra Sternum. Another page flip, he turned to the enderman, his head kept down to keep from accidentally angering them. "And you're Aufero?"
The quiet, approving vwoops was enough for him, as he set the book down, the page flipped on it's own to page 7, reading about turned zombie that escaped. "I'm gonna get you guys out of here. You can stick with me until you guys find a group to hang out with, or find your families." With that, Xavier grabbed the rope from his pocket and began to pull and pry the cages open.
A bit of struggle, but it was enough to get them open and both Ezra and Aufero got out of the cages. Ezra was still clicking bones, but Xavier assumed from the cold, and Aufero was... Towering over him, quiet vwoops and almost a-
"Thank you." Xavier jumped when he heard the voice, Chloe long since climbing up to rest on his shoulders. The subtle vwoops and coos in the voice was telltale to who spoke: Aufero. "It's no problem. You two are free now. I'll make sure of it."
The climb up the ladder, finding somewhere safe to reside, and keeping not only Chloe and Lola close, but making sure that Ezra and Aufero had something more covering, the world felt at peace...
'Yes I know I'm a wolf, and I've been known to bite
But the rest of my pack... I have left them behind
And my teeth my be sharp, and I've been raised to kill
But the thought of fresh meat.. It is making me ill
So I'm telling you.. That you'll be safe with....'
"Me..." The moon watching over, the wind whistling... He heard the quiet hums and lyrics of the night as he finally slipped off to sleep, the moonlight shining in his face, pressed to the cold of the cave...
